Valentines Day Decoration Ideas

I don’t do this. I don’t decorate my house for Valentine’s day but I had to look for Valentines Day Decoration Ideas for my son. They were asked to bring Vday decorations for their classroom. And you know me, I don’t go for simple decorations. As much as possible I want it to be unique and yet easy to do. So while I grab the chance to look for decoration ideas while I was browsing for mens ties. Most of the decorations I found were made of hearts, red, hearts and red. So I guess, will have to play with that, hearts and red. I decided to include some pink and some white. I made a boquet of roses (in red and in pink) and put it in a white vase (news paper made).

I made flowers from hearts! will post the tutorial soon as I am still compiling the photos.

Other Valentines Day Decoration Ideas are:

  • Hearts in red, pink and white made as chime
  • Decorate your sala set with little hear shape pillow. For a change, dress your sofa red and put small pillows in white and pink.
  • Give your wall some flavor, stencil little hearts on your wall (make it appear like stardust)

This Valentine’s Day it is up to you to decorate your house or not, it doesn’t matter as long as your house is vibrating with love, love, love.

Bed Business

If one your new year’s resolution is to replace those well worn and tattered bed sheets you’ve been using for years, zero in on these tips to be sure you’re getting the best bed buy (someone says that her resolution is to buy hot tub spa cover, more on that later):

1. Measure your bed carefully, taking note of the dimension from top to bottom and side to side. Also, don’t forget to measure the thickness of the mattress.

2. Explore your options by familiarizing yourself with the stores where you will make your purchase. Big department stores usually have an array of stocks to choose from, or you can also check out a specialty store for more choices. More so, buying online will also prove to be a convenient option as you will have access to more sources at the tip of your fingers.

3. Do your research and know your way around thread counts in bed sheets. As a rule of thumb, the higher the thread count, the more luxurious the fabric would feel. A thread count above 250 but not lower that 175 is the most ideal.

4. It is okay to splurge, remember you will be using these sheets every single night of every single day, so bet on the best one you can afford. Go for cotton or blends, flannel or silk and satin, if you must!

5. While you’re at it, buy extra sheets so you won’t have to go through these whole process altogether once you decide on changing them. And throw in some pillow cases too. That way, you’ll be sure to have fresh sheets all the time, even if you were lazy to throw in the soiled ones in the washer.

6. To maintain the quality of your sheets and to be sure they’ll last you a long, long time, be sure to check the laundering instructions. Need I say more?

Curtain Calls

You’ll be surprised to know that there are just way too many materials available for curtains, and choosing which material to use for your home is easy enough if you have a specific purpose in mind. If you were planning to inhibit incoming light into your room make sure to purchase vinyl-made curtains. The ones made with polyester are also ideal. On the other hand, if you want to let more light into your rooms, you must look for silk and cotton-based curtains. It is also good to note that you can also use materials of lighter shade like white, yellow or green. And you ought to buy silk or satin, or any other materials that reduce electrostatic without chemically treating your curtains, if you are in the look out for anti-static curtains.

Other common curtain materials include

acrylic (warm and strong)
acetate
cheesecloth (inexpensive, loosely woven and mostly used for translucent curtains)
cotton sateen (most popular lining used for curtains and mostly in buff color)
damask (extremely durable and has unique weave, patterns and colors)
lace (mostly used as a valance or netting for its mesh look)
linen (strong flax-span cloth)
muslin (a cotton-made lightweight gauze)

Some faciliteis such as malibu rehab treatment or hospitals are very keen on the type of materials for their curtain. In some cases, they usually opt for matrial that is durable and with light color.

Garden Furniture

We were out last night and saw some garden furniture..Husband says he wants wooden swing in the back yard. You know those antique looking wooden swing with big wooden wheel on the side. (oh I should have taken photos of it). Good thing that my mother has a friend who makes this kind of furniture. Have you been to Tiendesitas before? You can find there stores that sell different antique looking furniture, but I am not sure if all those are really antique and are made with an old wood. As for my my mom’s friend, we are assured that the wood they used are real old Mulawin wood (this are actually Mulawin roots).

Aside from the wooden swing, I also want to have a coffee table with chess board on it. It’s not for me (though it would serve its purpose as coffee table), this one would be for the boys. The thing about furniture made out of Mulawin is it can withstand any type of weather. This is the perfect garden furniture I believe but it can be really pricey (a bench costs 10000 Php or more)

The Biggest House

possible.. I want that. something that has large bedrooms and an work room for me and husband (where my wigs collection will be housed and our future i7). And of course aside from sleeping room, we also want a playroom for the kids aka mess room. This is where they play and mess with their toys. And I also realized that it is better to allot a room for the helper. I mean a room that is made for them. I realized that when you allow them to sleep on regular room, they somewhat feel that they are family too. They tend to take advantage of their employer. Giving them a quarter’s room will be a reminder of what they really are in the house.

But of course the biggest room (I mean aside from the maters bedroom) will be the kitchen. I want it to be so big that it can house a lot of cooking tools and a lot of cabinets for our food. But deciding the design of the kitchen is really hard. There is so many designs that are really great. So I guess, this area will take a lot of the building process..oh I should have the biggest room in the title 🙂
