Frugal Living

Frugal Living means avoiding unnecessary expenses and looking for ways to save and lessen the money spent. Frugal is synonymous to being cheap or being thrifty. There are so many reason why one would one to be thrifty and one of them is saving up for the future. If you are a homemaker, you know at least one or more ways on how to spend less and save more.

For those who is starting a home or suddenly realized the need to embrace frugality, here are some tips on how you can avoid unnecessary spending:

Do your grocery shopping 2 times a month at max. Shop for your needs that will last up to 2 weeks. In this way, your trip to the grocery store is lessened, more trips actually means more spending. If you do your grocery every week, the chances of you buying unnecessary items are very high. Other than that, budgeting your money would be easier if you already bought your two week long supply.

Drop the junk foods and spend on veggies and healthy food. Junk foods are cheap but it does keep you full, you’ll just end up eating more of it which in return make you spend more.

Saving can go a long way even if it is as small as turning off the TV before you sleep, instead of using a timer or letting it run all night.

Use coupons, search for promos and packages before buying.

Home Shopping

There was a time that I really enjoyed home TV shopping channels. It’s like online shopping, you’re shopping at the comfort of your own house. Some of the products that are very tempting for me are scar removal products and other beauty products, I was also interested in dutch masters cigars then. Oh well, I was young, bored and stay at home wife. And I haven’t discovered blogging yet. I sometimes wonder how my life was if I discovered blogging that early. Anyways, now, instead of watching home shopping TV, I just look the product I want in the net and see how much it is (sometimes it is even cheaper on the net and most of them accepts paypal).

How To Save Up On Electricity During Summer

And with summer heat comes the need to always turn on everything, and it means more electric usage which will make our electric bill higher. So how can we be cooler this summer without making our bill (and pocket) suffer?

It’s hot and you’re thirsty always, you will be opening the fridge more often for thirst quenching drink (water.. water.. water!! make that verrry cold water). Do you know that the more frequent you open the fridge door, the higher is your electric consumption? yes it’s true. So what to with your thirst? Put water container on the fridge before sleeping (2- 3 water containers), 2 water containers on the ref. On the morning, take out all the containers from the ref. Start by drinking first the water that comes from the ref (to give time for water from the fridge to defrost). This will lessen the time that your fridge/ ref is open.

Make sure that your air c0nditioning unit is cleaned before the summer starts. And if it is old enough, change it (they say the lifetime of an aircon is 7-10 years).

Use blinds and curtains to prevent the sun rays from entering the house, but do not use thick materials as it will prevent the air from entering.

Wear light materials before you take your sleeping pill and sleep. Stay away from dark colored clothes as it absorbs heat.

De clutter your house for better air circulation. Also clean your windows.

On the first month of summer months, when you got your bill, try using Meralco’s Appliance Calculator to see what appliances are taking a lot on your usage.

Ways To Cool Your Room

Summer is almost here and the heat is getting more unbearable as the day pass by. Here are some practical tips on how you can make your house cooler this summer:

Use light materials for your window. It does block the sun ray but does not block air flow.

When using your electric fan, take it away from you Television as it will take the heat from this kind of applainces.

Open the doors and the windows during the colder hours (in the morning) and close the door during the warmer hours.

If you are using an aircon in your room, open the window a few hours before night time so that the hot air will escape.

Always clean your fan to ensure its efficiency.

Some Effective Ways To Save Money

With the ongoing economic crisis, being frugal in different ways is the best solution to save more money. One of the best way to save up is to buy your house needs (such as linen, electrical and the likes) during sales such as Black Friday sales. And when it comes to grocery shopping, creating a list is a sure way to cut back on overspending. Planting your own vegetable in your garden, backyard or even in just a flowerpot is also one way to cut food expenses. You can even make sure that you are eating safer and cleaner veggies. To cut off your electric bill, try not to spend too much time playing on Facebook applications on your computer. Instead go out and keep your body moving.
