Amachan to start airing on TV5 this October 5

One of Japan’s highest-rating dramas, Amachan, will soon warm the hearts of Filipinos as TV5 starts airing the program beginning October 5, Monday-Friday, 11am.

The Philippine distribution of Amachan was made possible following an affiliation agreement between TV5 and Japan Broadcasting Corporation, NHK.

Amachan is an upbeat drama with moments of comedy about the journey of high-schooler Aki, played by popular Japanese actress Rena Nōnen, in pursuing her dreams of becoming an “ama”, a Japanese traditional free-diver of seafood, particularly of sea urchins in the series, and a pop idol. The series is set in the Tohoku region of Japan, which endured the biggest blow of the devastating tsunami disaster in 2011.

The series was an instant hit in Japan, becoming one of the top-rated morning dramas in Japan. Newcomer actress, Nōnen, even won a Best Actress trophy in Japan’s 17th Nikkan Sports Drama Grand Prix for her role in the series. Amachan not only won the hearts of Japanese viewers, the production of the series in the Tohoku region was also seen to have contributed in efforts to restore the region.

The hit drama-comedy earned Japan’s prestigious Galaxy Award for best television program in 2013, and will soon hit Philippine television – making Amachan the only Galaxy Award Gran Prix winner drama series to air in the country.

In addition to that, a live variety show, Hallo Hallo Café, hosted by seasoned comedian Yachang, will also pilot alongside Amachan as an after-show component. Hallo Hallo Café, presented and sponsored by Hallo Hallo Inc. and the Cool Japan Shop, will not only feature fun games but also give viewers a chance to win thousands of prizes. Viewers simply have to register for free on hallohallo.com to become eligible for the prizes up for grabs as seen in the after-show. Registered hallohallo.com users can also earn up to 10 million points by simply watching the show and being on the lookout for the daily keyword, which equates to points that can eventually turn into prizes.

Keep Your Family Safe

A home monitoring system can help to keep your family safe whether you are home or not. No one likes to think about what could happen if a burglar attempted to break into their property or what could happen if a fire breaks out and no one was home to see it, but these types of scenarios can lead to disastrous outcomes. When you have alarm monitoring services, you can have peace of mind that you are going to be taken care of in an emergency situation. Even if you are not home, the proper authorities can be called for assistance. There are many reasons why people turn to security system monitoring.

Faster Response Times
Since many emergencies happen in the middle of the night or when homeowners are at work or just away from their residence, it can be beneficial to have a professional service monitoring what is going on. Instead of having to wait for the owners to get home to notice that a problem has occurred or expecting someone driving by to notice what is going on, a security monitoring service will be on the alert immediately and will be able to call the police or fire department quickly. When every moment counts, a quick call to the authorities can make a huge difference.

Sleep in Peace
Although it can be a scary thought to have someone break into your home when you are not there or have a fire start when you are not there, the danger intensifies greatly when you are home sleeping. This is when you need to be alerted fast if someone is in your home or a fire has broke out for your own protection. You want to make sure that you are safe, your family is safe, and that your valuables are as safe as possible. If you want to be able to sleep with the peace of mind that comes from knowing that you will be alerted if any type of emergency occurs in your home, you should always have a monitored home system.

Many people are turning to monitored systems so that they can feel protected. These systems can also offer added perks like letting you know when your air conditioning stops working. Your comfort and security are very important, so be sure to choose a monitored service that offers quality services 24-hours a day.

JCI Manila: University of Leaders, Incubator of Movers

Inauguration of the first JCI Manila Clubhouse. Distinguished JCI Manila alumni, Ambassador Ramon V. Del Rosario is seen sixth from the right.

It was 1947, a mere two years after World War II, and Manila was still devastated – the second most destroyed city of the war. Its former glory was replaced by rubble, and reconstruction had barely begun.

Around the same time, a young man named Artemio L. Vergel De Dios was inspired by a feature in PIC Magazine on the US Junior Chamber of Commerce (Jaycees), which helped the government through the leadership of individuals. He took it upon himself to help rebuild the nation through the first and oldest leadership organization in Asia, the Junior Chamber International Manila. Formerly known as the Manila Jaycees, Vergel de Dios and Ramon V Del Rosario knew that was the only way to successfully restore Manila to its former glory was to get purposeful individuals focused on the same goal. Thus, on September 12, 1947, the first JCI Chapter in Asia was born.

Since then, JCI Manila has been fostering leaders who help strengthen the nation by addressing modern-day devastations like extreme poverty, natural disasters, unemployment, and malnourishment through a vision of providing development opportunities that empower young people to create positive change.

As the leading global network of young, active citizens in the country, JCI Manila has long been known as the early training grounds of notable alumni who have become movers and shakers not just in their respective fields, but within the country and around the world. Within its ranks rose such names as Mr. Washington Sycip, Ambassador Alfonso Yuchengco, Ambassador Ramon V. Del Rosario, and Mr. Henry Sy. JCI Manila has become an incubator of leaders in the public and private sectors, immersing themselves in civic duties that help propel the country and its citizens forward.

Its enduring success has earned JCI Manila the moniker of ‘University of Leaders.’ Its curriculum is shaped by a challenge to its members to reach out to the community, effect lasting and positive change, and cooperate and collaborate with each other toward a common goal. These are men, who in the words of Mr. Sycip, “Are not only men of integrity, but have the ability to inspire other dedicated and bright people to work with him.”

Echoing this sentiment, JCI Manila president Steve Baltao says, “Leadership through service is the most enduring lesson of being part of JCI Manila. I have learned more about myself reflected in the people whose lives we affect with positive change than I could ever imagine. It is an honor to be among such outstanding individuals, and an even greater honor to be of service to the community.”

JCI Manila is currently accepting applicants for membership. For more information, visit http://bit.lyjcimanilagnmo, www.jcimanila.org, like JCI Manila on Facebook, and follow @JCIManilaPH on Twitter.

6 Architectural Improvement Ideas For Your Home

Home improvements give you the areas you want while possibly increasing the property’s resell value. From renovations to add-ons, architectural designs allow you to create the perfect atmosphere. These methods can give your home a unique appearance, which can set it apart from any other location in the world. In most cases, even the most subtle of changes can give a room a completely new look.

Indoor Ponds

While the outdoor pond can add to curb appeal, bringing it indoors can create a perfect place to relax. Build on a small waterfall and you can enjoy the sound of running water year round without worry of the pond freezing. However, an indoor pond will weigh quite a bit. It will need to be properly supported especially if it’s above ground level.

Patios

Patios are an excellent way to improve the curb appeal of your home while enhancing it’s value. Some homeowners build roofs overhead or use wooden slats as a way to offer shade. Creating a wider area may be beneficial for hosting barbecues. You could also build on wooden seating and tables eliminating the need to buy extra outdoor furniture.

Built-In Shelving

Installing shelving units into the walls themselves can open up rooms without needing various pieces of furniture. For example, an elaborate entertainment center can be installed within the wall giving you ample space for home electronics and books. This can also be an attraction for others when it comes time to sell the home.

Outdoor Accent Lighting

Accent lighting outside of the house not only offers a nice appearance at night, but it can also make the property safer. A few small outdoor lights shining on your garden can be bright enough to provide enough light to see where you’re walking. Using LED bulbs can greatly reduce the energy costs if that is one of your concerns.

Natural-Themed Swimming Pool

Swimming pools are a nice addition to most properties, but making it resemble a natural pond can take the experience even further. This can be done with plastic plants and stones in addition to the construction of the pool itself. Some homeowners will have waterfalls built onto the pool as a way to cycle the water, which gives it an even more natural look.

Skylights

Skylights have a certain allure as these units allow natural light into the home. For many individuals, this natural light is soothing and relaxing while saving money on energy costs for illumination. Depending on your geographical location and the skylight design, they can also offer an incredible view of the stars at night.

Renovations and remodels are done all the time to properties whether it’s for efficiency or aesthetics. Places such as a Steve Wynn casino have been redesigned from their original floor plans to enhance function. Your home can be modified in a number of ways giving it greater appeal to yourself and others who may be interested in purchasing the property. Enhance your surroundings and give yourself the perfect atmosphere to come home to after a long day at work.

Safe, Clean Drinking Water: A Basic Human Right

Over the last decade, drought and contaminated water have made safe drinking water a big problem for over one billion people in developing and impoverished countries. In many families, women and children must walk miles every day to get water.

According to the 2015 World Economic Forum, the world’s water crisis creates the highest risk for world health safety concerns. With world drought and lack of sanitary conditions found in most third-world countries, many people don’t have safe drinking water. People are at risk for illnesses and diseases caused by the lack of access to safe, clean drinking water over the next ten years. In the United States, many people who live in rural areas lack access to clean drinking water. Around the world, over 700 million people, approximately one in nine people, lack access to clean drinking water. Global health studies and statistics show that over 800,000 people around the world die every year from the effects of contaminated drinking water. That equates to approximately 2,000 people each day!

Health Risks

In developing third-world countries where drinking water is often scarce, over 1,600 children die each day from the effects of drinking contaminated water. The leading causes of illness and death are from unclean drinking water. In many places like Nigeria, Somalia and Nepal, illnesses like dysentery, typhoid fever and cholera claim more lives than malaria and AIDS combined. In many parts of Africa, waterborne illnesses are the leading cause of death for children under five years of age. When water is contaminated and unsafe to drink, it not only causes intestinal parasites and major illness, it also causes death.

Solutions

It’s a basic human right of every person to have adequate, safe, clean drinking water. Unicef and The United Nations are working diligently to provide those rights to people around the world. It’s estimated that every person on earth requires a minimum of 20 to 50 liters of water per day for personal hygiene, drinking, cooking to avoid potential health and safety risks. Health organizations and private companies are working to provide safe drinking water through filtration systems and reverse osmosis equipment that eliminate bacteria and chemical pollutants that contribute to water-related diseases. Although these systems have improved water safety standards in many regions, there’s still a long way to go to eliminate the world’s drought and water safety concerns.
