Life hacks for Modern Homemakers

Modern homemakers face a big challenge in balancing work and making sure that their family gets the best care at home. Difficult as it may seem, taking care of the family while keeping a full-time job can be made easier with efficient and reliable help.

Samsung Digital Appliances provides super moms and dads with the perfect partners in life through its innovative products.

With the right tools and tricks, homemakers can prepare fresh and healthy meals, accomplish the week’s laundry, and spare enough time to bond with the kids. Samsung shares a list of ‘life hacks’ in the kitchen and laundry room to make daily tasks simple, enjoyable, and time-efficient with the help of the Samsung Twin Cooling Refrigerator and AddWash Washing Machine.

Life Hacks in the Kitchen:

  1. Monitor temperature. When storing food, try to customize the refrigerator’s temperature settings according to its contents. The Samsung Twin Cooling Refrigerator makes it easy to set the temperature to optimal conditions with a push of a button.

Samsung’s innovative Twin Cooling Technology gives separate temperature controls for the fridge and freezer, bringing superior energy savings and capacity for wiser consumption with each compartment set to its optimal temperature.

  1. Store food properly. Make sure to store like items together, grouping vegetables, meats, and cooked perishables. Sometimes, homemakers find their fridge overflowing while the freezer is nearly empty. For these scenarios, the Samsung Twin Cooling Refrigerator offers the flexibility of converting the freezer to a fridge to store more groceries, or to turn off one compartment depending on the family’s storage needs.

The Samsung Twin Cooling Refrigerator’s Smart Conversion feature allows for five different conversion modes: regular mode, turning the entire freezer into a fridge, keeping only the freezer on, keeping only the fridge on, and turning the freezer compartment into a mini-fridge.

  1. Do not overfill the refrigerator. Cramming the refrigerator with food will limit air circulation, which can affect food freshness. Also practice a first-in, first-out approach so that the fridge is not filled with leftovers that may go stale.

A refrigerator is truly a must-have in every home so it has to be durable, energy-efficient, and an elegant addition to the modern kitchen. The Samsung Twin Cooling Refrigerator uses digital inverter technology, which ensures efficient energy consumption. Its digital inverter compressor also comes with a 10-year warranty on motor to make sure that the family’s “partner in freshness” will serve the household for many years to come.

Life Hacks in the Laundry Room:

  1. Schedule laundry days.  Plan when to do the laundry. Organize all items to be washed so they are ready to go into the washing machine. For times that you forget to include items of clothing into the wash, the Samsung AddWash Washing Machine lets users add missed items during the wash cycle. Users can also put in hand-wash items during the rinsing process, saving precious time and energy that are better off spent with loved ones.
  1. Segregate clothes. Gather clothes of the similar material. Never lump delicate clothing with denim and other heavier fabrics. This will avoid damage of the clothing items.  It also helps to look at the washing machine’s unique features, which can turn the product into a partner in convenience.

Samsung washing machines use the Ecobubble™ Technology, which mixes air, water and detergent to create bubbles that penetrate clothes 40 times faster than plain soap and water. The result is cleaner clothes with less power consumption.

  1. Make sure there are enough items per wash cycle. Maximize time, energy, and resources by making sure you put in enough items for every wash. Samsung’s Add Wash machine can load up to 12 kilos of clothes and offers Samsung’s SuperSpeed feature, which completes a normal wash in less than an hour without compromising wash quality. In addition, the AddWash uses Samsung’s SpeedSpray technology, where detergent is rinsed off faster through sprays of water, and a Digital Inverter motor, which ensures superior energy efficiency and minimal noise.

With the game-changing technology of Samsung Digital Appliances, modern homemakers can have partners in life that will help them in daily household tasks, allowing more quality time for the family.

Keeping Pests Away

Mosquitoes can annoy even the calmest person. They are insects that are resilient, going through the hottest and wettest conditions in order to find an arm or another area of the body to sink their teeth into in order to draw even the smallest amount of blood. There are a few natural repellents that can be used so that you can enjoy your time outside once again.

One of the mosquito control products that has been used since the 1940s is lemon and eucalyptus oil. The CDC has gone as far as to approve eucalyptus oil as one of the items that can safely repel mosquitoes. Combine a mixture that is about 32 percent lemon oil and eucalyptus oil to give about 95 percent protection from these annoying insects for at least three hours. Sunflower oil and witch hazel work in the same manner and can be added to the lemon. The lemon gives a delightful fragrance to the mixture.

Enjoy the smell of lavender with crushed leaves that are kept in a bowl on the table. The scent will drive the mosquitoes away while providing a delightful aroma in the home or outside. This is a plant that you can grow inside the home in a small pot or outside in a garden. When you crush the flowers, you’ll see oil escape from the leaves. If you don’t want to use the entire leaf, you can apply the oil to the skin or even to a bite that has already been seen as it will quickly heal the area. Lavender is a plant that has many antiseptic and antibiotic qualities, making it ideal to rub onto the skin to keep mosquitoes and other insects away.

Cinnamon oil can be used to kill off the eggs that mosquitoes lay. It is also beneficial in keeping away larger mosquitoes while you’re outside. However, cinnamon oil in its concentrated form can irritate the skin. You want to make a diluted mixture with a quarter of a teaspoon of the oil blended with 4 ounces of water. Spray the mixture onto the skin and also on plants or furniture to keep the bugs away.

Join Grab to ‘Deliver Happyness’ to 7,000 Underprivileged Kids

  • Grab launches regional donation campaign in six Southeast Asian countries
  • Allows anyone to donate pre-loved books, stationery and toys to underprivileged kids – at zero cost and effort
  • Simply book a Grab driver who will pick up your pre-loved stuff
  • Grab aims to collect 20,000 items across the region

Manila, 07 December 2016 – Grab, Southeast Asia’s leading ride-hailing platform, wants to make December a little merrier for everyone through its latest regional donation campaign. With Delivering Happyness, Grab is calling for Filipinos, and the rest of Southeast Asia, to get into the spirit of year-end giving. All they have to do is to round up and pack gently-used (or new!) books, school supplies and toys – and then simply book a Grab to collect them starting December 12 to 24. Grab aims to collect 20,000 items across Southeast Asia, which will be delivered to 7,000 underprivileged kids in Southeast Asia.

“While people may wish to help the less fortunate, they often don’t know how, or where to start. As part of Grab’s commitment to improving lives in Southeast Asia, we’re using the Grab app to make giving as easy as possible – and in the process, deliver happiness to the children in our communities who need it most,” said Cheryl Goh, VP of Marketing, Grab.

Cheryl Goh added, “I grew up reading the adventures of Nancy Drew. She was a real problem-solver! I always try to find solutions and attribute my never-say-die spirit to my hours of reading. Today we read of young wizards bravely fighting the dark lord, instilling in kids a sense of justice and morals. Grab wants to call out to those who have the means to donate books, school supplies and toys. Let’s bring the joy of reading stories to thousands of kids in Southeast Asia – and give them a great foundation for learning life skills.”

Grab has partnered with non-profit organizations – in all six countries that Grab operates in: Singapore, Indonesia, the Philippines, Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam – that focus on helping children in need. Each tackle issues unique to each country, such as helping to re-equip schools in the Philippines that were affected by recent storms, or giving books, school supplies and toys to kids in rural villages in Vietnam.

Grab Philippines has partnered with rural public schools across the country to help them rebuild what they lost after getting hit by recent storms. These public schools in Manila, Cebu, Bacolod, Baguio and other neighboring cities will be the beneficiaries of Delivering Happyness.

“With the help of our provincial offices, we have pinpointed public schools that need a helping hand after being displaced by recent storms. Delivering Happyness is the perfect venue for Filipinos to share the spirit of Christmas with underserved kids and we’re glad to be able to make it happen,” said Grab Philippines’ Country Marketing Head, Khriz Lim.

Delivering Happyness from December 12 to 24
